FLOW FUNCTIONS SELECTION AND DYNAMICS OF THE CARBON CYCLE IN A TRANSITIONAL BOG ECOSYSTEM

N.N. Zavalishin
Problems of environment conservation, 2000, 12, p. 76–95

Summary

Properties of a method for constructing dynamical systems by a given storage – flow diagrams, which was suggested by Y.M.Svirezhev in [1], are considered and the resulting system of ordinary differential equations is analysed. This approach is applied to the carbon cycle in a typical transitional bog ecosystem of middle – European Russia. We consider decomposable compartment models which are mathematically possible for this system and show them to yield biologically incorrect results. Selecting successively different variants of flow dependence on storage allows one to establish the combination suggested in [2]. Studied are stability of the given equilibrium, existence of other nontrivial equilibria and their local dynamics as well as the appearing of a non-trivial attractor.
